Justin Timberlake's lawyer has issued a new statement regarding the entertainer's recent arrest for driving while intoxicated (DWI). The 43-year-old was arrested on Tuesday (June 18) in Sag Harbor, New York, and was released the same day after appearing in court.
"We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office,” the singer's lawyer Edward Burke Jr told Page Six in a statement.
According to court records, Timberlake was arrested after an officer initiated a traffic stop. He reportedly told police he "had one martini and I followed my friends home." The records also noted that his eyes were "bloodshot and glassy," and there was a "strong odour of an alcoholic beverage" on his breath.
The officer reported that Timberlake was "unable to divide attention," exhibited "slowed speech," was "unsteady afoot," and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests. Timberlake also reportedly refused a test three times, initially saying, "No, I'm not doing a chemical test."
Timberlake was released without bail and will make his next court appearance virtually on July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney's office.
