Artiste Alert - Kannaki Rajkumari, singer and guitar player

Kannaki Rajkumari, who hails from Golaghat (Assam), now resides in Guwahati. The young artiste sings, plays the guitar and dreams of pursuing a full-time career in music. The law student says, 'Initially, I wanted to discontinue law school and join a music school. Now, I'm going with the flow. My favourite instrument is the guitar, as its sonic possibility draws my attention.I think music is an explosive expression of humanity, it is the greatest means of communication in the world. For me, music is something which affects my mind, body and soul.'
So, when did her love affair with it begin? She replies, 'I used to sing since childhood. My serious love for music began during my school days. I did my first stage show only in 2013. It was at a fashion show.'
The versatile artiste goes on to cite Mariah Carey, Beyonc' and Rihanna as her greatest influences. She elaborates, 'Their songs are so empowering.' As for her own music, she likes to 'keep it simple and interesting'. Kannaki states, 'Right now, I'm into a lot of Western music. I have always been interested in pop, blues and country songs. I love Spanish tracks as well. I love trying cover versions in my free time.'
Ask her what the future holds for her and she says, 'I love singing in different languages. So, my next track will be a cover of a Korean song.'
