James Cameron shares an update about Avatar 3

Even as James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is all set to release on December 16 in cinemas, Avatar 3’s release date is also being planned two years from now. In an interview to digitalspy.com, Cameron predicted confidently that if all goes as planned, then number 3 in the Avatar movie franchise should be delivered to viewers by December 20, 2024.

“Movie 3 is in the cans,” he said, adding that the production team is “right on course,” and will deliver another three Avatar movies by 2028, assuming that the new movie to be released next week is successful.
Cameron revealed that it was because of his insistence that movie scripts for all the four Avatar movies be ready before work started on them. That is the reason that there was a 13-year delay between the release of the first Avatar movie in 2009 and the second in the series that is coming next week.

The movies have to make a profit before the next one comes out. “Obviously we've got to make a profit or we're not going to keep doing it and beating our heads against the wall," Cameron commented in the interview.

Already there have been superb reviews for Avatar: The Way of Water since its world premiere earlier this week.
