Voice actor Daisuke Hirakawa, known for his roles in popular anime like ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’, has announced a temporary hiatus following a recent hospitalization for sudden hearing loss.

Taking to X Hirakawa shared the news, explaining that the hearing loss had occurred unexpectedly just a few days prior. As per his doctor's recommendation, he disclosed his decision to take a leave of absence to undergo in-patient treatment.


Further, in a statement, Hirakawa apologized to fans and colleagues for his sudden departure and his inability to participate in an upcoming fan event for the Japanese comedy video series ‘Super Stylish Doctors Story’. The event, scheduled for October 29, will now feature Toshihiko Seki, another voice actor from ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,’ who plays the central antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Hirakawa has shared subsequent updates on X since his initial announcement, expressing gratitude for the support he has received on social media and assuring fans that his hospital treatment will not be long-term. He has stated his intention to resume public appearances in November and December and is diligently working on his recovery in the hospital.


Currently, there have been no reports of event cancellations or production delays due to Hirakawa's condition. Fans seeking updates on his health can refer to Hirakawa's official X account.

Hirakawa has been a prominent voice actor in the anime industry for over 25 years, lending his talents to various iconic characters, including Laito Sakamaki in ‘Diabolik Lovers and Enmu’, the primary antagonist in ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ - ‘The Movie: Mugen Train’. The latter film achieved international acclaim in 2020, becoming the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film ever.
