James Tolkan, best known for his roles in ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Top Gun’, and ‘Back To The Future’, has passed away. The actor was 94 at the time of his passing and had spent many decades working in the entertainment industry.
The news of his passing was confirmed by TMZ, where the creator of the ‘Back To The Future’ franchise, Bob Gale, revealed the news. The veteran actor passed away on Friday at his home in Saranac Lake, New York. No official cause of his passing was shared with the public. James Tolkan is survived by his wife, Parmelee Welles.

While Tolkan rose to fame for his roles in ‘Back To The Future’ and ‘Top Gun’, he had worked in countless other projects. The actor was born on June 30, 1931, in Calumet, Michigan. In his early years, he completed his education in Arizona before officially enlisting in the army during the Korean War. After being discharged due to a health issue, he returned and pursued a Bachelor of Arts.
His acting career began much later when he landed a role in the film ‘The Three Sisters.’ Following this, he landed his next role 3 years later with ‘Stiletto’, after which he regularly pursued different roles and projects.
Over the years, he worked with a lot of other well-known names in the industry and starred in a lot of blockbuster films. Some of his most popular works include ‘Serpico’, ‘Family Business’, ‘Walls of Glass’, ‘ The Amityville Horror’, ‘Prince of the City’, ‘Ministry of Vengeance’, ‘Family Business’, and ‘Heavens Fall’, to name a few.
Kalpan’s last appearance on the big screen was in the documentary ‘Tom Wilson: Humbly Super Famous.’ Other than that, his last acting credit in a film is from 2015, when he appeared in ‘Bone Tomahawk’ as the pianist. He also worked on a lot of TV shows within the span of his career.
