Avengers, Captain Marvel, Star Wars: The biggest Hollywood films to watch in 2019

As we welcome the New Year, 2019 is all geared up to fire off a chain of Hollywood films that could well break the box office. Be it ‘Endgame’, Captain Marvel’ or ‘The Lion King’, here's what to watch out for. So, without further ado, here we take look at the most anticipated Hollywood movies to release in 2019.

2/12

Avengers: 4 Endgame

2019 has to be an exciting year! There are more superhero movies to watch this year than you can expect: ‘Captain Marvel’, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, ‘Glass’ to name a few. But the one film that’s generating the huge excitement is the ‘Avengers 4’, teaming up the Marvel top team once again after last year’s box office hit ‘Infinity War’.

‘Avengers 4: Endgame’, being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, is expected to release in March.

3/12

Captain Marvel

Written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the first announcement of ‘Captain Marvel’ came four years ago and it’s Marvel’s first female-led superhero production. Expectations are really high and Brie Larson looks like up to it playing Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel She is a former US Air Force pilot gifted with superhuman strength. Danvers teams up with the alien Kree military group to become one of galaxy’s most powerful fighters during an intergalactic fight between Earth and two other extra-terrestrial worlds. All of this goes on when Danvers seeks answers about her past and identity.

The superhero movie is expected to release on March 8.

4/12

The Lion King

A remake of the famous 1994 Disney film, this photorealistic live-action flick may give Disney the taste of yet another victory it achieved in 2018. ‘Lion King’ has all the elements to be a blockbuster. Be it the exciting plotline of a lion fleeing into exile, dazzling cast members like Beyonce, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and not but the least audience nostalgia. Whether you have already watched ‘Lion King’ as a child or a kid looking forward to see talking Timon, Pumbaa, Nala and Simba; this is a must watch for everyone.

‘The Lion King’ is expected to release in July.

5/12

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

It’s the 12th installment to the X-Men franchise, a direct sequel to the 2016 hit ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ in which we saw the X-Men standing united as ever in front of the world-destroyer Apocalypse. This time, it’s one of their own members who becomes a threat to destroy the gang. Jean Grey develops superior power turn into a corrupt Dark Phoenix thus presenting the ultimate dilemma - save the friend or save the entire world?

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, the next X-Men movie will release on June 7.

6/12

It: Chapter Two

A long awaited sequel to the 2017 hit which left many terrified of sneaking into street gutters and somehow justified many kids’ fear of creepy clowns. The second chapter is another Stephen King-based, creeps-inducing horror flick. In the first film we saw the shocking disappearance of 7-year old Georgie and the ensuing tyranny by an unknown force ‘It’ on his teenage brother and his gang The Losers Club. Here, the gang is 27 years older, and keen to finally put an end to the fears.

‘It: Chapter Two’ is expected to release on September 6.

7/12

The Aftermath

Keira Knightley to play the female lead in this post-World War II romantic drama which sees the wife of a British army colonel falling for a German widower played by Alexander Skarsgard. Based on the popular novel of the same name written by Rhidian Brook, experts suggest ‘The Aftermath’ can be the next ‘Atonement’! Nearly 11 years since ‘Atonement’ gave us one of the most intimate love-making scenes in a library ever, a new Keira Knightley and Alexander is here to bring the same level of sexiness!

‘The Aftermath’ being directed by James Kent is expected to release in March.

8/12

Godzilla II: King Of The Monsters

‘Godzilla II’ revolves around a crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members fight against an army of god-sized monsters, including Godzilla obviously, when Gozzilla faces off his ultimate nemesis King Ghidorah (a three headed monster). The sci-fi movie features Millie Bobby-Brown and Sally Hawkins in the lead. Directed and co-written by Michael Dougherty, it’s a sequel to ‘Godzilla’ (2014) and happens to be the 35th film in the Godzilla franchise.

The much anticipated sci-fi is expected to release by the end of 2019.

9/12

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Director M. Night Shyamalan has done some pick and mixing with the characters from his previous films for this new one. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, the David Dunn and Mr. Glass of Unbreakable, come together for a psychological horror flick. In ‘Glass’, Dunn with his superhuman powers hunts down Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), the famous disturbed character from ‘Split’ suffering from dissociative identity disorder with 24 personalities. Among those, a notorious and unpredictable identity called ‘The Beast’ kidnaps teenage girls and locks them up in cells. No doubt a perplexing watch!

‘Glass’ is expected to release on January 18.

10/12

X-Men: The New Mutants

Yes, you heard it right. One year and two X-Men films! Directed by Josh Boone the 20th Century Fox film will introduce a cast which is mostly new to the X-Men franchise. Here five new young mutants find out their abnormal strength while they are locked in a secret facility. Dark, intense and filled with furious screams; it promises to be a classic Marvel story focusing on escape and redemption. Featuring Charlie Heaton who played Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, this one is a must-watch for all X-Men lovers.

The release date of this film is August 2.

11/12

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

For his next, Tarantino goes big. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt play two aspiring TV stars hoping to cement their place in the film industry in 1969 Los Angeles. The film is set against the backdrop of an America stormed by the Manson Family murders - the notorious killings perpetrated by a cult organised in California and led by Charles Manson. By the end of the 60s, Manson was already predicting some kind of an apocalyptic war on racial tensions. Apology of violence along with cult of insane leaders: it’s no surprise why it all sets the stage for a classic Tarantino.

The much-anticipated film is scheduled to hit the theatres on July 26.

12/12

Star Wars: Episode IX

J.J. Abrams returns with the director’s hat for the last installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy after Colin Trevorrow backs out. But it retains the exact promise of an ‘emotionally resonant finale’. How to justify the disappearance of Carrie Fisher? That’s what remained a critical issue in the last film in 2016 and also her brilliant performance of Princess Leia. In ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ there will be no recast or use of a computer-generated character, which means Leia is most likely to have a small appearance based on footage that was shot previously. It’s no doubt a great way to give credit to her 40 year-long career with the Star Wars franchise.

The film is expected to release on December 20.
