Bhojpuri stars who made it big in Bollywood

Bhojpuri cinema has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years. With its phenomenal growth, the popularity of the Bhojpuri actors has also increased. Not only have these actors earned fame through Bhojpuri films but have bagged some real performance oriented roles in Bollywood films too. Here we give you a rundown of Bhojpuri actors who have worked in some popular Bollywood movies.

Antara Biswas, popularly known by her stage name Monalisa, has worked in numbers of Bhojpuri films. The actress had also bagged an item number in Ajay Devgn, Suneil Shetty and Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘Blackmail’ in 2005. She was also seen playing a small part in ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ starring Govinda. Apart from these, she has also appeared in Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films.

Ravi Kishan is a very popular name in both Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema. Rightly touted to be the superstar of the Bhojpuri industry, he has had his share of Bollywood films too. The actor has played various roles in hit Bollywood films like ‘Tere Naam’ starring Salman Khan, ‘Bullet Raja’ starring Saif Ali Khan, ‘Luck’ starring Sanjay Dutt and ‘Phir Hera Pheri’.

Manoj Tiwari, the actor-turned-singer-turned-politician, is a big name in the Bhojpuri industry. The actor had worked in a historical biographical film on Bhagat Singh, ‘23rd March 1931: Shaheed’.He played the role of Veerbhadra Tiwari along with famous Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Amrita Singh.

Vinay Anand is yet another name that is recognised in both Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema. In Bollywood, he was seen in films like ‘Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa’ starring Govinda and Juhi Chawla, Tabu, Chandrachur Singh and others. He also acted in a romantic movie ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’ starring Govinda. Vinay is a relative of Bollywood superstar Govinda and married to Jyoti Anand, sister of popular south Indian actress Simran.

Shubhi Sharma who is active mainly in Bhojpuri cinema has done an item number with Bollywood star John Abraham. She appeared in the ‘20-20’ song in the comedy movie ‘Welcome Back’, which is a sequel to ‘Welcome’ that starred Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shruti Haasan, Paresh Rawal and Dimple Kapadia.

Awdhesh Mishra, who is best known for his negative roles in Bhojpuri films, played a pivotal role in the Hindi movie 'Dirty Politics'. The Bhojpuri star portrayed the character named Jabbar Singh. The movie features popular actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Mallika Sherawat, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Om Puri.
