Sujan makes a mark online during the lockdown

is utilising the

lockdown

to take theatre online. He recently performed a monologue, Tamaku Sheboner Opokarita, written by actor Ajitesh Bandhyopadhyay and it is receiving appreciation online. “It’s a three-part monologue of 30 minutes and is a Bengali adaptation of

Anton Chekhov

’s writing. It speaks of a man’s loneliness. Though I found it difficult to memorise at first, it’s a brilliant adaptation and people instantly liked it. I wanted to do it to kill time and also to stay in practice. In the process, many got to know about a good work written in the past,” he said.

The actor is also gearing up for another interesting project. He received many calls from his

Chetana

group members about coming up with an online project to kill boredom. “I decided to write a satire, which will have a role opportunity for all 25-30 members of my group. We planned the entire shoot over conference calls. I have written the script and it will have a professional editor, Pronoy, of

Kakababu

and Gumnaami fame. I plan to upload the work on Chetana’s Facebook page and on YouTube,” he said, adding, “It was quite a challenge to put the things together because each one of them is shooting from their homes. So, I have given them the characters based on what can be available to them for the shoot. The satire is called Maskbaadi and it’s about a TV channel celebrating the golden jubilee of the lockdown period. Not everyone is a sound actor so I had to do a lot of hand-holding through technology. From phone camera angles to shoots, I send them all dummies through WhatsApp. But we are enjoying the process.”
