It’s that time of the year when
Maa Durga
will give her annual visit to her parents’ home and people just leave all those works and worries to celebrate the biggest carnival of Bengal with family and friends. However, there have been debates for years on how can we spend such huge money, time and effort to worship a warrior goddess when we still treat women so poorly in our society?
Now to celebrate the spirit of womanhood ahead of Durga Puja,
Ujjaini Mukherjee
’s new song ‘
Modern Nari
’ just got released and it highlights the taboos women face every day. Be it the lyrical content, fast
Rap
or finally the song ending with a flavour of
Durga Puja – all these deliver a strong message.
Featuring popular actress
Sandipta Sen in different avatars that celebrate ‘nari shakti’ this song surely has enough food for thought. “Worshipping such a strong and independent goddesses Maa Durga becomes all too absurd in a nation where women and girls are still killed, raped and oppressed in the name of so-called tradition and also the social taboos that destroys the very essence of a society. Our song speaks of the real essence of womanhood. Also the misconception about women should be changed now. An independent modern woman can’t be criticized and objectified all the time. It feels so good to be a part of the project. Not just the music but the lyrics will also make you think twice. I hope people will love it,” shares actress
Sandipta
who has become a household name these days.
The rap version of
Aditi Bose
is also praiseworthy. She has also penned and composed this special song. The concept, screenplay and direction are by Dipanjan Roy, programming and arrangement by Suman Chakraborty and Pradyut Chatterjea while mixing and mastering are by Debojit Sengupta.
