It’s expected that wherever she goes she will be requested to once sing Boshonto Eshe Geche — her popular rendition from
Srijit Mukherji’s film, Chotushkone, which won him the National Film Award for Best Director. Lagnajita shot to fame with the soulful song and has been making many stage performances come alive with her singing. Film songs like Odol Bodol (Pendulum), Thake Joto Tarai Dure (Onyo Boshonto), Shokhi Rongo Kato Bol (Rajkahini) and Hridoyer Rong (Ghare And Baire), among others, have had the audience croon each time she performed.
Besides the many albums and shuttling between Kolkata and Mumbai, Lagnajita has her hands full with Hindi projects as well. “I have completed work with director Shashanka Ghosh of the Veere Di Wedding fame and director Abir Sengupta, who did a Bengali film Jomer Raja Dilo Bor a few years ago. Recently, I have recorded with
Amit Trivedi, which was a dream I had like many do. The lyrics are by Gulzar,” shared Lagnajita, adding, “It is not a film song but an anthem of a bank. Nevertheless, it was a great experience for me.”
Having ticked the box on her checklist that mentioned working with Amit Trivedi, Lagnajita is happy to be working both in Mumbai and Kolkata. In fact, she has no qualms with the continuous travelling nor does she think Kolkata is anywhere lagging behind in terms of work quality or professionalism. “I have never been able to gauge the difference in the level of professionalism among people from both the film industries because I have always worked with the best in Kolkata. The top-level people in any industry are very professional. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have reached where they are today. I keep travelling to Mumbai because I want to expand my opportunities and want to be known nationally. Not because I find working in Kolkata difficult,” Lagnajita reasoned.
Among her Bengali projects, she has sung for
Soukarya Ghosal’s Rawkto Rawhoshyo and will sing for
Anupam Roy in Sanjhbati. Though she is back in Kolkata now, she has her fingers crossed for her latest recording. “I have recently got a big chance and had recorded a song in Mumbai. It is being pushed to big production houses there. I won’t be able to reveal much but it’s a gem of an opportunity I got,” Lagnajita said.
