These 7 underrated actors can give big stars competition

Joyraj Bhattacharjee
Films: Gandu, Herbert, Kangal Malsat, Tasher Desh, Ludo
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Q: I have known Joyraj since 2000 and he is a part of all my films. Actually, he comes from a theatre background and acting is in his blood. He creates magic once the camera rolls. He is flexible, highly disciplined and versatile — all that a director wants in an actor. We also connect well as we think alike. And as far as popularity is concerned, Joyraj doesn't want it. He just wants to concentrate on his work. But do character actors have any value in Tollywood? Tell me, who wants to explore here? Rather, they repeat the same thing over and again. In my films, I try to explore these actors who are talented and have the ability to portray any role on screen.

KOUSHIK ROY
Films: Meghe Dhaka Tara, Proloy, Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Goynar Baksho, Teen Patti, Punglingo Strilingo
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Subrata Sen: Koushik is one of the few actors in T'wood who has a brilliant diction and voice. I'd love to cast him in a role similar to a Nana Patekar character in my film. Once the director says action, his body language changes in a second and Koushik is deep into the character he is playing. It is high time T'wood casts him in meaningful roles, as he has got the looks as well as the acting ability to make a mark.

Anubrata Basu
Films: Bedroom, Gandu, Tasher Desh, Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends, Maach Mishti & More
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Mainak Bhaumick: I feel Anubrato is one of the finest actors of this generation. He is just what new generation films need — a proper mixture of talent and attitude. The audience really stood by him during his small role in Bedroom and he rocked in Maach Mishti & More. Yet, he is not well known to people, possibly because he completely stays away from the limelight. He lives on his own terms and is in a class of his own — unparalleled, unmatched!

DEBOPROSAD HALDAR
FILMS: Baishe Srabon, Bedroom, Hemlock Society, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Family Album, A Political Murder, Maach Mishti & More, Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Kamaleswar Mukherjee: Deboprosad is like clay, which directors can mould into any shape, and there lies his brilliance as an actor. He played a small yet significant role of an asylum gate-keeper in Meghe Dhaka Tara, but I must admit that he added life to the character. His eyes speak volumes and that's what I like about Deboprosad. Because of his acting prowess, I'm sure he will make it big in life. He just needs the right project and I am sure he will get it.

ANINDYA BANERJEE
FILMS: Meghe Dhaka Tara, Chaturanga, Ekti Tarar Khonje, Mahanagar@Kolkata, Baishe Srabon, 3 Kanya, Kahaani, A Political Murder, Buno Hansh, Nirbak
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Agnidev Chatterjee: I first saw Anindya acting in Kahaani, and felt that he looked very unassuming yet looked very unassuming yet confident. Then, when I was finalizing the cast for 3 Kanya, his face came to my mind and I took him on board for a rapist's role. He was mind-blowing! I was so impressed with his performance that I cast him in A Political Murder too. Anindya is disciplined and hardworking and deserves to be in a much better position than some of the over-hyped actors of the crumbling Bengali film industry.

PRASUN GAIN
FILMS: Tumi Je Aamar, Prem Amar, Challenge, Kanamachi, Amanush, Target, Nine Miles, Khasi Katha — A Goat Saga, Action, Le Chakka
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Raj Chakrabarty: Both Prasun and I are from Hali Sohor and so, I've seen his struggling days. He sleeps, eats and drinks cinema and that's where we bond. He is a thinking actor and has the hunger and determination to do better work, which I adore. Whenever I have narrated a script to him, he has invariably come up with positive suggestions to add new dimensions to his character. The other positive thing about him is his temperament. He will never ever complain about the length of a character, as he is more concerned about the depth of his role. I wish directors cast talented actors like him in meaty roles, in which they can show their acting ability.

TARANGA SARKAR
Films: Ganesh Talkies, Bhalo Theko, Arekti Premer Golpo, Ek Mutho Chobi, Teen Yaari Katha
DIRECTOR'S TAKE:
Sudeshna Roy: Taranga is an actor who is convincing in any role, especially comic. As an actor, he can hold any audience captive. He is also very effective in conveying emotions. Taranga was there in only two scenes in Teen Yaari Katha, but he stole the show. Before Shabdo, Tollywood never realized Ritwick Chakraborty's potential as an actor. So, I feel Taranga also needs the right role to prove his talent.
