Jeet Gannguli: Top 10 Bengali romantic songs composed by the melody king

There was a golden era of Bengali music when it was adorned with renowned singers and maestros who made the entire nation proud of them. Then came the period of darkness when Bengali music was losing its glory. It was a difficult time when Jeet Gannguli made his debut in Tollywood started breaking the barriers to reach out to Bengali music lovers once again. Since then, Gannguli has delivered a number of hit songs which will always find a place in the history of Bengali industry. Among his so many hit compositions, here is a list of his top 10 songs.

'Ki Kore Toke Bolbo' from ‘Rangbaaz’

Arijit Singh and Jeet Ganguly joined forces to churn out another masterpiece. As it steals the hearts of Bengal melt it with emotions, the maestro decided to reuse the same tune of 'Ki Kore Toke Bolbo' in a Hindi movie and gave India another superhit romantic track titled 'Sunona Sang Marmar'. But before you are addicted to the Hindi version, you must listen to the original Bengali version. ‘Rangbaaz’, starring Dev and Koel in the lead, was a typical commercial entertainer with nothing new in the storyline but it was the music which created magic.

‘Batashe Gun Gun’ from 'Chirodini Tumi Je Amar'

The album of 'Chirodini Tumi Je Amar' became a rage in no time after its release. Almost every Bengalee, especially the young couples were astounded by the never-heard freshness of the songs. Jeet Gannguli's rendition along with June Banerjee’s sweet voice aptly captures the spirit of young love and raw passion deep inside with utmost sincerity. Picking one song from this love saga is quite difficult, but 'Batashe Gun Gun' stands out among others.

Rimjhim E Dharate from Premer Kahini

It’s another beautiful rendition from Shan and Shreya Ghoshal and no doubt one of the best compositions in Jeet Ganguli’s career. Featuring Dev and Koel, this romantic track from ‘Premer Kahini’ is a feeling of happiness, a cool breeze, and nature drenched in rain. This foot-tapping musical treat topped the chart for several years at that time. Just like the soul-stirring track, the film also remains a turning point in Dev’s career.

‘Mon Majhire’ from 'Boss'

Using Arijit Singh’s sweet voice, Jeet Gannguli made us literally groove with the enchanting 'Mon Majhire' from 'Boss'. The romantic number eventually broke all the records redefining the Bengali musical universe. This song has a Hindi counterpart too which was used in 'Singham 2'. However, many believe the remake couldn't quite capture the same charm of the Bengali original. Incidentally, renowned choreographer Baba Yadav made his directorial debut with Boss which starred Jeet and Subhashree Ganguly in the lead.

Tor Motoi’ from ‘Ki Kore Toke Bolbo’

Both rendered and sung by Jeet Gannguli, the refreshing, youthful romantic number topped the charts that time winning many a million Bengalee hearts. Featuring Ankush and Mimi Chakraborty, this preppy track can rejuvenate your mood with a musical boost. Directed by Rabi Kinnagi, ‘Ki Kore Toke Bolbo’ also became a musical hit for Jeet Gannguli’s composition.

‘Ke Tui Bol’ from ‘Herogiri’

Jeet Gannguli and Arijit's awesome combination has, again and again, proved the pair just can't go wrong. The novel rhythm and revitalizing melody of Ke Tui Bol were addicting enough to cement a permanent place in your hearts, especially those who love romantic melodies. If you still have a doubt, just invest your ear to this track. The soul-stirring music is definitely the USP of ‘Herogiri’ which had an ensemble cast that included Dev, Koel Mallick, Mithun Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Sayantika Banerjee and many others.

‘Oh my love’ from 'Amanush'

With the husky honeyed voice of Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal, the sweet 'Oh My Love' turned out to be the love anthem of the year. And even after eight long years, the refreshing composition of the track still seems to be intact. It’s a perfect song to relax your stressed mind and feel the love in the air. Jeet Gannguli’s music became synonymous to the cute jodi OF Soham and Srabanti who were the protagonists in this love saga directed by Rajib Biswas.

'Prem Amar' title song

Only music can delve deep into our hearts and show the passion of true love in an unabashed manner. Beautifully sung by Kunal Ganjawala and June Banerjee, the electrifying tune of ‘Prem Amar’ will never grow old. The serene location and also the exhilarating chemistry between Soham Chakraborty and Paayel Sarkar transform this romantic song into a musical love saga.

'Saat Paake Bandha' title song

The mellifluous title track from the 2009 romantic hit 'Saat Paake Bandha' can make you feel the love in a whole new way. The beautiful lyrics burst into life with the magical voice of Sonu Nigam and the heart-wrenching harmony composed by Jeet Ganguly just added the cherry on top of it. This is by far one of the finest Bengali songs by Sonu. Directed by Sujit Mondal, 'Saat Paake Bandha' starred Jeet and Koel in the lead.

‘Dhaker Taale’ from 'Poran Jay Joliya Re'

Jeet Gannguli established his diversity in this cheerful vibrant song superbly blending the joy of Durga Puja and the pain of bidding Maa Durga adieu during Vijaya Dashami. Only a Bengalee can feel the deep-lying meaning of this song by Abhijeet. Filled with pure 'Bangaliana', 'Dhaker Taale Komor Dole' is a perfect desi dance number without which the playlist of any Durga Puja pandal seems incomplete.
