‘Nagarkirtan’ cleared of any plagiarism accusation

Author Swapnamoy Chakraborty recently accused Kaushik Ganguly of plagiarizing his work. He alleged ‘Nagarkirtan’, Kaushik's latest release, has been taken from his novel Holud Golap. However, the filmmaker was quick to shun the accusation, saying, "If I were to develop my film on Swapnamoy Chakraborty’s story, I would have felt honoured. He is a renowned author and I have a lot of respect for him. But I wouldn’t have resorted to a sly approach. I would request the author to watch the film at the earliest.” However, after watching the film Swapnamoy Chakraborty made a u-turn and admitted ‘Nagarkirtan’ is not copied from his work.

Dev starrer ‘Password’ eyeing Puja release

Dev is seen these days with a moustache and no doubt his new look has left fans wondering what this is for. Well, the Tollywood superstar’s new look is for his upcoming film, Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s ‘Password’ which also stars Parambrata Chatterjee, Paoli Dam, Rukmini Maitra and Adrit Roy in pivotal roles. The first poster of the thriller, which is eyeing Puja release, is already here and it looks every bit intriguing featuring all the protagonists in a mysterious look. In ‘Password’ Dev will essay the role of a daring cop in the cyber crime department.

Parambrata Chatterjee to direct Koel Mallick

After ‘Hemlock Society’ and ‘Highway’, old friends Parambrata Chatterjee and Koel Mallick have teamed up for the third time for Sayantan Ghoshal's next ‘Sagardiper Jwaker Dhan’. He had earlier told us it will be great to direct a long time friend like Koel. Now, it seems the wait is finally over. If all goes according to plan, Koel Mallick will play the lead in one of Parambrata’s upcoming directorial venture. Although the actor-director remains tight-lipped about the film, we hear it will be a sci-fi drama. The plot of this film revolves around a couple and their son. The story will shed light on what to expect in the future world, the complex equations in day to day relationships. Not only donning the director’s hat, Parambrata might act in this film as well and it will be made under the banner of Surinder Films.

‘Googly’, a rom-com with a serious message

The official trailer of Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s ‘Googly’ is already out to tickle your funny bone. However, you can’t just ignore the hidden message the rom-com tries to deliver. The trailer featuring Soham, Srabanti and Master Soumyodipta Saha in & as ‘Googly’ is loved by all. The video shows how two people Arjun and Dali with stammering problems tie a knot and get confused later about having a child as they become unsure about the destiny of their child Googly. The movie, produced by Surinder films and slated for a March 29 release, aims to spread the message that every person, irrespective of their disabilities should be accepted with wide arms.

It’s a wrap for Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s ‘Hullor’

It’s a wrap for Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s upcoming comedy caper ‘Hullor’ which stars Soham Chakraborty and Om as the male leads. Om ‘Hullor’ also has Srabanti Chatterjee and Darshana Banik playing the female leads. Produced by Eskay Movies, it’s eyeing a summer release. The story revolves around a shop and the age-old cold war between South and North Kolkata. While Soham and Srabanti are resedents of South Kolkata, Om and Darshana are from North Kolkata. Soham plays a gharjamai to a business tycoon and Srabanti is a doting wife. Subhasish Mukhopadhyay plays a funny astrologer who always looks to cheat people. Santilal Mukhopadhyay will be seen as a Maa Kali devotee who wants to build a mandir for Maa Kali.

Atanu Ghosh wraps up ‘Bini Sutoy’ shoot

It’s a wrap up for Atanu Ghosh’s ‘Bini Sutoy’. The film has been shot in various locations of Kolkata including some popular spots like Kumortuli, Park Street, Bhawanipore and the airport. The most interesting part of the shoot is there are number of buildings Atanu has used as shooting locations in which were never used for shooting before. The film stars Ritwick Chakraborty and Jaya Ahsan in the lead.

‘Michil’, a political thriller

A well-educated Srimoyee belongs to a middle-class family. Her parents are preparing to get her married. One day the independent young lady gets involved in a political march and it changes her life forever. She slowly steps into the slippery, dirty world of politics. Srimoyee eventually cancels her marriage as she believes marriage will stand against her political career. However, it all goes wrong for the highly ambitious young lady. That’s what the story of director duo Surajit Nag and Ujjwal Basu’s upcoming film. Incidentally, Ujjwal Basu is also making a crowd-funded film ‘Dudh Pither Gaach’. Titled as ‘Michil’, it’s inspired by a short story by Pracheta Gupta. Basabdatta Chatterjee will essay the lead role of Srimoyee. The rest of the cast includes Bhaswar Chattopadhyay, Falguni Chattopadhyay, Samadarshi Dutta and Rumki Chattopadhyay.

Devlina Kumar in Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s ‘Samsara’

Actress Devlina Kumar who was recently seen in Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s 2018 box office hit ‘Haami’ as a school teacher will next be seen in director duo Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s ‘Samsara’. The film also stars Ritwick Chakraborty, Rahul Banerjee, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Indrajit Chakraborty and Tanusree Chakraborty. Devlina will be seen as Indrajit Chakraborty’s on-screen wife. The couple has a really curious past. After living separately for years, the husband one day discovers her married to an elderly man. However, the woman insists she is another person but the husband is obsessed with the idea that his wife has returned to seek revenge. What happens next forms the crux of this psychological thriller.

Sohini Sarkar in Swapna Barman biopic

Srijit Mukherji is finally making a biopic on Swapna Barman, who became India's first ever heptathlete to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Sohini Sarkar will be seen Swapna and she will soon start her rigorous workshop to prepare for the challenging role. Despite having six toes on each foot and facing several obstacles throughout her sporting career, the Bengali lady made India proud in the international arena through her immense hard work and dedication, the statement read further.

Next Kiriti film titled ‘Kiriti O Chaar Nishan’

Director Anindya Bikash Datta’s ‘Kiriti O Kalo Bromor’ released in 2016 introducing Indraneil Sengupta as Kiriti. The second film in the franchise ‘Nilachale Kiriti’ directed by Anindya once again hit the theatres last year. Now, we hear the makers have opted for a new director to helm the third Kiriti film and it’s most likely Ayan Chakraborty. Tentatively titled ‘Kiriti O Chaar Nishan’, the detective thriller will go on the floors in May. Will Indraneil reprise his role as the famous sleuth? That’s still to be finalised but Camellia Productions who are bankrolling the project has announced an action hero will be roped in to play Kiriti.
