But as time passed, Indian cinema evolved and with it, the audience evolved as well. It was a indeed bold step for Tollywood in Mainak Bhaumik's ‘Family album’. Here the two leading ladies, Paoli Dam and Swastika Mukhejee, locked lips and set the screen on fire! Exploring lesbian relationships in Bengali movies has always been some sort of a taboo but it’s also a fact that there have been serious attempts made in this area by renowned filmmakers. There are few films from mainstream cinema as well as the LGBT community that’s giving its best effort to churn out queer stories but the good news is things are changing rapidly.

Debleena Dutt and Rajesh Sharma were seen in a passionate lovemaking and kiss scene in Mukul Roychowdhury’s debut film Taan, that sheds light on the “water prostitutes” of the Sunderbans. Inspired by a short story, Jalbeshya, written by Bangladeshi author Al Mahmud, the film dwells on the lives of women living in the remotest part of Sundarbans. They are abducted and brought to jungles only to be groomed as prostitutes. The film, released on 2014, earned critical acclaim for its bold storytelling.

Surprisingly, the censor board was rather a bit lenient in this case. Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Bastushaap’ showed a passionate kissing scene between Parambrata Chatterjee and Raima Sen.

Otherwise, with perfectly measured acting and perfectly scaled action, the spellbinding thrill of ‘Bastu Shaap’ will give you goose bumps. Director Kaushik Ganguly showed two parallel cinematic visions in tandem, one of which explains the relationship between Parambrata and Raima and the other propels the main story forward keeping Abir Chatterjee at the centre. The emotional tension and uncertainties between Parambrata and Raima are handled superbly and is a pleasure to watch. Apart from donning the director’s hat, Ganguly himself excelled in a key role in the film.

Abir Chatterjee, generally an actor whose films don’t contain too many lip locks, had to share a passionate kiss with Payel Sarkar just before the end credits rolled in Ebar Shabor. Although, it merely lasted for not more than 5 seconds, we can't deny major romantic feels it give!

It was the first film in Goyenda Shabor series and Saswata Chatterjee who has played companions in both Feluda and Byomkesh came into his own form as a stone-cold detective in this film stealing all the limelight. In all three Shabor films released so far, Saswata wows the audience as the hands-on and sharp ACP Shabor Dasgupta. This is a series nobody should miss.

Dev, who was initially not sure about the kissing scene in Arshinagar, eventually had to do it when director Aparna Sen threatened that she will kiss Rittika and show him how it's done. The leading pair finally did the scene and it captured the emotions beautifully onscreen leaving Dev fans swooning.

The romantic drama is inspired by Shakespeare’s epic 'Romeo And Juliet'. It narrates the modern adaptation of the eternal saga on the backdrop of rivalry between two families and eventually ends at the death of the lead characters. In this Bengali adaptation, Dev and Rittika Sen did justice to the lead roles while Jisshu Sengupta was seen as the main antagonist. His character was sketched out of the Tybalt character in the original. Aparna Sen’s modern adaptation is set on the world of land mafias where love is doomed forever.

When a former Miss Universe and sizzling Sushmita Sen locked her lips with Tollywood hearthrob Jisshu Sengupta, no one can’t help but term it as one of the best kisses Bengali cinema has seen in recent times. The pair shared a passionate kiss in Srijit Mukherji's ‘Nirbaak’ which no surprise became talk of the town.
