Tollywood is thriving on nostalgia amidst the nationwide lockdown and here’s a happy throwback from 2017 when Nandita Roy-Shiboprosad Mukherjee directed ‘Posto’ enjoyed its grand theatrical release. The family drama became one of the highest grossing Bengali films of 2017. It received rave reviews from the audience and critics alike.
The story of ‘Posto’ revolves around hard-working couple Arnab (Jisshu Sengupta) and Sushmita (Mimi Chakraborty) who had left their son Posto with his parents (Soumitra Chattopadhyay and Lily Chakraborty) in Santiniketan, while they chased their dreams in Kolkata.When Arnab gets a business offer in the UK, they want to relocate with their son. But the grandparents are unwilling to let him go. Who will Posto stay with? That’s what the film is all about.
Shiboprosad and Nandita have become the conscience keepers of middle-class Bangaliana in the past few years. And they did it again with ‘Posto’. The film checks all the right boxes: Rabindranath and Santiniketan, raising children, grandparents versus parents, the taboo on drinking, tradition versus modernity et al.
