Team ‘Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’ decodes what to expect from the film

‘Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’ reflects the umpteenth effort by a Bengali trio seeking lost treasure. The central attraction in Dhrubo Banerjee’s film is Subarna Sen (Abir Chatterjee), a history professor who turns Indiana Jones’ Bengali version during summer vacations with two teenage spunky and erudite assistants, Abir (Arjun Chakrabarty) and Jhinuk (Ishaa Saha). After last year’s ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ they are coming back to enthrall you yet again. Ahead of ‘Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’s May 24 release, we caught up with the cast to know what to expect from the treasure hunt drama. Here are the excerpts.

Dhrubo Banerjee

Abir, Arjun and Ishaa will be seen solving a more dramatic and intense mystery, while the adventure intensifies. I’m sure people will like the film just like the previous one. Like Indiana Jones searches only for mythical treasures, Sonada looks for treasure within Bengal and with the help of Bengal’s history. Another reason the audience will like the film is for of its music, which plays an important role in the narrative. All the songs have helped the film narrative to flow and without the songs, the story cannot be told. In ‘Guptodhoner Sandhane’, we used only one song and that too a Rabindrasangeet. However, ‘Durgeshgarher Guptodhon’ has multiple tracks. As the main figure in this film is Ma Durga so the chanting of her has been used all through the film and this chanting has been used as a musical statement.

3/6

Abir Chatterjee

In the first film my responsibility was to introduce Sona da and audience got to know Abir, Jhinuk and Sona da and accepted them. Now, people will see the film with more expectations. Naturally, the expection is high this time around. If people ask when will we be seeing the third film in the franchise only then we can say that the second film has achieved something big. Sona da here is just like your family guy – pure Bangali, adventurous, sharp, intelligent, speaks about history like a story and also the bonding between Sona da, Abir and Jhinuk. Sona da knows Abir likes Jhinuk and he fully supports Abir. This film celebrates the bonding; it’s a film of this trio.

Arjun Chakrabarty

The amount of appreciation we are getting is just heart-warming. There are many who didn’t watch 'Guptodhoner Sondhane'. So, they are saying that they will watch it before watching 'Durgeshgorer Guptodhon'. And the ones who have already watched the earlier film can’t wait to watch this one. We are trying to be chill but there are some expectations since the first one was such a big hit. We can assure this one will be bigger and better. The stories of this two films are not connected but it will help understand the characters if you saw the first one. There are a number of common characters along with some crazy references, punch lines and jokes.

5/6

Ishaa Saha

In ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ it was first time I worked with Arjun and Abirda. It felt like I have seen them on big screen till now, especially Abir da. I was confused about how would they react, what’s their stardom, how would they behave and all. But this second time and I can only say our bonding is now stronger. So we are very confident. It’s a large scale film. After the first film people said the bonding between Arjun and Abir da is great. I assure now they will say the bonding between the trio is awesome. This time we have improvised a lot, timings were good during shots. The strong chemistry will reflect on screen. Amra fatiye korechi chobita. So darshok er valo lagbei.

Kharaj Mukherjee

It’s good to see everyone is talking about the film. It feels like hard work is paying off. Now I am eager to see how the audience responds when it releases at the theatres. It’s story of a treasure hunt. We all are searching for the culprit who’s responsible for the shocking incidents related to the treasure. There’s a great Puja ambience at a bonedi bari. I am playing a man who is a significant part of this house despite not having any blood relation with the family. In fact, the senior most character, played by Lily Chakraborty, sees me as his elder son. My character is a jovial, down to earth man who loves to make everyone laugh.
