Sujoy’s first documentary on theatre screened for public

Chatterjee is out with his first documentary film, Spotlight, on the history and legacy of the broadway in Bengal and the future of Bengali theatre. A

was organised on Tuesday at a city café.

The 60-minute documentary captures the essence of Bengali theatre by talking to personalities, such as the late Soumitra Chatterjee, Neeraj Kabi, Sohag Sen, Daminee Benny Basu, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Bratya Basu. The shoot started in May 2020 and was completed during the lockdown. Talking about the concept, director Sujoy Prosad said that it is inspired by Saikat Majumdar's novel, The Firebird, set in 1980's Bengal and written from the perspective of a 10-year-old boy. "This book kindled my imagination. Since I have experienced a large part of broadway, I have a trove of memories with me. So, I decided to make it in the form of a documentary,” he added.

, who presented the documentary, told CT that he would have misses on a great opportunity if he hadn’t worked on the project. “It is a very interesting and enriching experience for me,” he said.
