Ritabhari Chakraborty’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing after the poster of debutant director Aritra Mukherjee’s film,

Brahma

Janen Gopon Kommoti, was launched on social media.

“I am so happy with the feedback from the poster. Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti talks about breaking taboos. It shows the protagonist holding all things related to idol worship in one hand and in the other hand, she is holding a sanitary pad, a painkiller, a hot water bag and other things that a girl needs during her periods. It is a fun movie and not at all preachy. The film questions why a woman can’t get into the kitchen or thakur ghor when she is having her periods. There are so many age-old myths we are following in this patriarchal society and the film opens the discussion among the audience centering on those beliefs,” said Ritabhari, who is paired opposite Soham Majumder. She added, “I play Shabari, who leads a dual life. I can’t reveal anything more than that. All I can say is that I was speechless when I heard the story of the film. When I heard the script, I just said, ‘I am on board’.”

The shooting of the film starts from November and the music is composed by Anindya Chattopadhyay.

Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti revolves around Shabari, who is a lecturer and performing artiste. She is into another profession too. When a chance encounter with

Vikramaditya

at a college function leads to a marriage proposal, she clearly tells the would-be groom about her multiple identities. Her words are misinterpreted and Shabari is forced to keep one important part of her life under wraps due to the stark differences between the worlds she belong to, pre and post marriage. The film is a dramatic comedy that makes one ponder about the outdated rites and rituals and questions the gender imbalance in society.
