Pratyabartan: A mirror to urban India’s lost time and lonely homes
Pratyabartan, brings together a powerful ensemble cast led by Anjan Dutt, Rupa Ganguly, Silajit Majumdar, Aparajita Adhya, Kharaj Mukherjee and Koneenica Banerjee to tell a deeply relevant story of modern urban life.
The film follows Dr Dipankar Sanyal, a brilliant surgeon who leaves his roots in rural Purulia to pursue success in Kolkata. Along with his wife Shalini and young daughter, Dipankar embraces city life, chasing professional growth, social status and comfort. Over the years, ambition quietly replaces connection, and the family’s emotional bonds begin to erode. Twelve years later, their teenage daughter Disha, isolated and unheard, turns to social media in search of identity—triggering a crisis that shocks both the family and society.
As public judgment turns harsh and unforgiving, Dipankar and Shalini are forced to confront their failures as parents and individuals. Refusing to escape, they return to their roots to face truth, guilt and societal pressure head-on.
In his director’s statement, the filmmaker describes Pratyabartan as a reflection of our times—of fast cities, digital dependence and emotional loneliness inside urban homes. Avoiding preachiness, the film aims to spark self-reflection, reminding audiences that success means little if we lose touch with what truly matters.
