When Celebs openly confessed their addiction struggles

Addiction is an all-consuming force that can grip anyone, regardless of fame or fortune. For celebrities, the pressure of the spotlight can intensify these struggles. However, there are quite a few celebrities who have demonstrated incredible courage by opening up about their battles with addiction. These celebs have publicly confessed how addicted they were once, shedding light on their journey to recovery and inspiring others to seek help. Read on…

Anindya Chatterjee

The popular actor has always been vocal spreading awareness on the evil of drug addiction. He has joined hands with several NGOs for the social cause. In fact, Anindya has learned from his personal experience. Back in 2020 he wrote an emotional Facebook post. “There's a reason why I don't drink or do drugs and I'm not ashamed of admitting it. I still remember on this very day, exactly 12 years back, when I checked myself in to a rehab in Habra for the very last time. Probably my 30th attempt. Today I’m 12 years clean and sober from the bondage of drugs and alcohol. I’m not special. Certainly I’m not superhuman. My odds of recovery are not better than yours or anyone who’s battling addiction.....It’s a slow process, it’s one hell of a struggle and it hurts a lot of the time. It gets better, you deserve better and you’re worth more. For what it’s worth,” wrote Anindya.

Rahul Banerjee

The seasoned actor also had problems with alcohol consumption once, more specifically when he was going through a difficult time after his marriage with Priyanka Sarkar broke down. Back then several media reports claimed that he was even having problems during film shoots as well and reportedly because of his alcoholic nature the actor had lost quite a few projects. However, with time Rahul finally managed to come clean battling his alcohol addiction.

Ranbir Kapoor

In an interview once, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that he used to smoke weed during his time at film school. He also shared that he did it again while fliming for ‘Rockstar’ as it helped him get into the character. "I used it again during Rockstar, this time as an acting tool. It was hard to get in the moment on stage with 300 junior artistes posing as a real audience. Pot made those moments feel real," he had shared.

Joy Mukherjee

Joy, the ex-boyfriend of actor-politician Sayantika Banerjee has also been an alcoholic. Even in 2018, the brawl between the once ‘most-happening’ Tollywood couple Sayantika and Joy made the headlines. Joy got arrested after allegedly harassing Sayantika and on the road. Later, in an interview, the Bengali actress opened up about their strained relationship accusing Joy of harassing her more than once. Later it was revealed that Joy, who’s also an actor, even had to go to rehab to come clean of alcohol addiction.

Prateik Babbar

Prateik once spoke about his struggle to come out clean during an interview. He had said, "There was a part of my life that people didn't know about. All these years, people, fans and admirers saw me in a certain way as a good actor, a happy guy. But that wasn't the case. I wasn't happy, I wasn't being good to myself. I was a heavy addict. It was a huge problem."

Beacon of hope

The stories of these celebrities who publicly confessed their past addiction struggles remind us that fame and success cannot shield anyone from the challenges of life. Their courage in sharing their battles has not only helped them find healing and redemption but has also sparked essential conversations about addiction and mental health in society. By acknowledging their vulnerabilities, they have shown that seeking help and support is a sign of strength, inspiring others to do the same. Their journeys of recovery serve as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges, proving that the path to healing is within reach for anyone willing to take that first step.
