, who had directed the film A Better Life, shares his experience of directing his maiden film and his upcoming plans.


Tell us about your

background.

I don’t belong to a filmi family. I didn’t go to any film institute. But film was always in my mind. I used to love watching various types of films from the stage of adolescence. I used to study my all time favourite directors, great Satyajit Ray, Rittik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and other directors too. I studied about the camera. I love to study different types of films, their frames, camera works, colors, editing, sounds, BGM, and I always love to do these. May be these are foundations that helped me to become a director.

Why had you decided to make this movie?

I wanted to make this movie for everyone. I had noticed lots of psychological problems of students and other age group, especially the young generation. I wanted to blend the philosophy and

psychology

and make an educational movie for all.

Why have you decided to make the film in a foreign language?

It is just because of communicating with the international audience. I made this film with keeping film festivals in mind. I like to communicate through English. Apart from that, the story demands the English language as it is shown in the film that the young protagonists feel comfortable expressing themselves in English.

How was your experience in directing your maiden film?
It was a great experience, specially working with the great actors like Arun Banerjee and Supriyo Dutta. They were exceptionally good. I have learnt a lot from them. The young actors made me surprised with their performance in it. They all came from group theatre. We had a great team, I enjoyed a lot working with our associate director, Anamik Saha, DOP, Avi Bandyopadhyay, editor Arindam Gayen, music director Debjit Gain, sound engineer Suchisubhra Sen and the whole total team.

What is your next venture?
I have already written a feature film's script. It also has a new concept and I'm planning to work on it soon.
