From being Hiralal Sen to embodying revolutionary Binay Basu on screen – Take a look at doctor-actor Kinjal Basu’s filmography

Bengal is out on the streets raising her voice for dissent. After the semi-naked body of the 31-year-old woman post-graduate trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was found on August 9 morning – a nationwide outrage gained momentum. Doctors across the country started a movement demanding women’s safety at the workplace and the common people joined in. In West Bengal, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF) has been at the forefront of this movement for justice. However, one particular voice has emerged to prominence amongst them. That voice is of Kinjal Nanda’s; the doctor-actor who is spearheading the protests demanding justice for RG Kar rape-murder victim and her family. Take a look at Kinjal’s filmography so far.

The beginning



​Kinjal came into the limelight once he starred as Hiralal Sen in the film ‘Hiralal’. The film, which is a biopic, is based on the life of famous director Hiralal Sen and how he contributed to Indian Cinema saw Kinjal in the role of Hiralal Sen. Kinjal then acted in films like ‘Lullaby’, ‘Into The Mist’.

The breakthrough



​Kinjal went on to star as Indian revolutionary Binay Krishna Basu in the film 8/12. Kinjal’s performance stole the attention of the audience, as well as of the film critics. He played the part of Bishwanath Paul in ‘Byomkesh Hatyamancha’, acted in the character of Pitambar in ‘Karnasubarner Guptodhon’. Kinjal appeared in several episodes of ‘The Bengal Scam: Bima Kando’ as well.

The growing list of acting credits



​From appearing in ‘Nandini’ to acting in ‘The Red Files’ which is based on the true event of Bantala rape case, Kinjal strengthened his ground in Tollywood. The doctor-actor was seen in a commercially successful film ‘Alaap’ as well, which starred Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty, Swastika Dutta apart from him. Kinjal’s latest project ‘Katay Katay’ released a while back.

The upcoming projects



​Kinjal is all set to portray the revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in the upcoming biopic. Not just that, the doctor-actor will be seen in the upcoming film ‘Devi Chowdhurani’, where he will be seen playing the part of Brajeshwar.

Kinjal, the doctor



​Kinjal, who is a member of West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF), has been demanding ‘justice’ for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and her family. Kinjal, who has been part of the movement from day one, earned his MBBS degree from KPC Medical College and Hospital in Jadavpur, Kolkata. He has been a post-graduate resident MD in Microbiology at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital since October, 2023.
