Birthday special: 5 characters only Prosenjit Chatterjee could have pulled off

Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee has played myriad roles in his career spanning three decades. From out-and-out commercial movies to offbeat, art house films -- Prosenjit has awed audiences in varied roles. On his birthday today, here's taking a look at five iconic characters that he has played on the big screen.

2/6

As Mahendra in Chokher Bali

This film is based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel of the same name. Prosenjit played the self-obsessed, complex character, Mahendra, in the film. His deft portrayal fetched him accolades.

3/6

As Lalon Fakir in Moner Manush

It was risky for Prosenjit to break away from his star trappings and sail through uncharted territory with a project as ambitious as Moner Manush. But his hard work has ensured that the film remains a landmark in his career.

4/6

As Rajat Ghosh in Kishore Kumar Junior

One may not be able to imagine Prosenjit Chatterjee in blingy jackets, gold chains and white shoes, but boy did he look the past as Rajat Ghosh in Kaushik Ganguly's Kishore Kumar Junior. The actor defined Rajat's character spotlessly, sealing the latter's place in one of his best portrayals.

5/6

As Kushal Hajra / Anthony Firingee in Jaatishwar

The superstar played a Portuguese-origin Bengali folk poet and his reincarnation in Jaatishwar and his double role fetched him loads of accolades.

6/6

As Kaushik Chatterjee in Dosar

This remains one of Prosenjit Chatterjee's finest performances. Portraying a bedridden man who survives a car crash in Rituparno Ghosh's Dosar is no mean feat but Prosenjit delivered his finest act. From the body language to the internal battle of fighting the loss of a loved one and trying to win the trust of his wife back, was portrayed convincingly by the actor. No wonder the film fetched him a National Film Award – Special Jury Award in 2008.
