Bengali films releasing this April you can’t afford to miss

The year 2018 witnessed the rise of some well-scripted content-driven, small budget Bengali films. The audience also welcomed actors and character roles beyond the big names in Tollywood. This year, too, seems promising for Bengali cinema with a range of upcoming releases, both small budget and large-scale. In the first three months, the Bengali box office saw a mixed set of audience reactions with big releases like Shah Jahan Regency, Tritiya Adhyay, Ahaa Re, Nagarkirtan, Mukherjee Dar Bou receiving a decent response. Now it’s time for April. Here's a look at some of the most anticipated Bengali films to release this month.

The family drama revolves around an elderly couple who are married for 50 years and their family members as they decide to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. basu’s 50 years of marriage in a family get together. The story unfolds during the get together of all the family members at their ancestral home.

Tarikh

With ‘Tarikh’, Churni Ganguly bagged the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Special Jury Award at the Kolkata Fil Festival last year. Naturally, the expectation is quite high from the film ahead of its release on April 12. ‘Tarikh’ talks about using social media in a more responsible way. While trolling has become a vicious activity now, this film tries to shed light on the importance of spreading positivity through social media. Produced by Opera Movies ‘Tarikh’ stars Saswata Chatterjee, Raima Sen, Ritwick Chakraborty and Kaushik Ganguly in pivotal roles.

4/6

Vinci Da

There’s already a sky-high expectation from Srijit Mukherji’s next ‘Vinci Da’ as the recently released trailer has sent the social media into a tizzy with some of the big names from the film fraternity going gaga over it. ‘Vinci Da’ is Srijit Mukherji’s third thriller after ‘Baishe Srabon’ and ‘Chotushkone’ and whatever we have seen from the trailer it promises to deliver more layers than his previous works. Starring Ritwick Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, Anirban Bhattacharya and Sohini Sarkar in the lead, the upcoming thriller has already made everyone guessing what surprise Srijit now has for the audience. The film releases on April 12.

Ke Tumi Nandini

He was earlier seen opposite Koushani Mukherjee and Rittika Sen in back-to-back films. Now, Bonny Sengupta has a new heroine in Pathikrit Basu’s next ‘Ke Tumi Nandini?’. He will next be seen opposite Rupsha Mukherjee in the upcoming romantic drama. Given the title, the story revolves around Nandini (Rupsha) and Arka (Bonny). Produced by SVF, the romantic flick will release on April 26. Beside Bonny and Rupsha in the lead, the film also stars Aparajita Auddy, Shankar Chakraborty, Sayantani Guhathakurta, Saurav Das and Saayoni Ghosh among others. Rudranil Ghosh has written the script and the music has been composed by Amlan Chakraborty.

Jyeshthoputro

Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Jyeshthoputro’ is inspired by ‘Anya Nayak’, a script written by late Rituporno Ghosh. While Prosenjit Chatterjee and Ritwick Chakraborty play the male lead, three extremely talented actors Sudiptaa Chakraborty, Gargee Roychowdhury and Daminee Basu will be seen as the female leads. Jointly produced by Surinder Films and Nideas Creations, ‘Jyesthoputra’ is a story of two brothers where the elder brother is a celebrity while the younger brother is a common man. Prosenjit Chatterjee plays the titular role of the elder brother and Ritwick will be seen as the younger brother.
