Tollywood mourns veteran actor’s demise
Actor Abhishek Chatterjee (1964-2022), who was associated with the Bengali film and TV industries for two decades, passed away at his residence on Thursday. He was 57 and is survived by his wife and daughter. The late actor wasn’t keeping well for the past few days and on Wednesday, while shooting for a reality show, his condition deteriorated. He was taken home, as he refused to get admitted to a hospital. The exact cause of his death is not known yet. His industry colleagues, most shocked by the news, spoke to us about his untimely death.
I’ll take time to process the news: Prosenjit Chatterjee
There can’t be a worse news than Mithu’s (Abhishek) demise. I’ll take time to process the news. We have worked together in innumerable films, but he was more than a colleague to me. I was present at his wedding as ‘bor-karta’ and I just can’t believe that he is no more. Life can be so unpredictable and cruel at times.
Rest in peace
Mithu da:
Jeet We were together yesterday and today you are no more … With a very heavy heart #Rest in peace Mithu da. My deepest & sincere condolences toSanjukta boudi
, his family & all his loved ones (sic)Jeet (on Twitter)
He was with me in my worst situations: Indrani Haldar Mithu was my friend, philosopher and guide and one of my best friends. He was with me in my worst situations and every time, he would say, ‘Mamoni (my pet name), sob thik hoye jabe, ami achi toh!’ This Sunday, he was supposed to visit Shirdi with his family, but God had other plans. I have a show at Tamluk today. There, I’ll perform to all our hit songs. That’s my tribute to my dear friend.
I used to call him daddy in real life too: Trina Saha
It is a sad day for the industry: Bharat Kaul
I was with Mithuda on the sets of
Ismart Jodi
on Wednesday. He wasn’t feeling well and was puking. His blood pressure was low. We wanted to get him admitted to a hospital but he insisted on going home. We started working together in 1994 and have worked in 25-odd hit films. Mithuda was extremely professional and an excellent co-actor to work with. It is a sad day for the industry as we have lost a dear friend. His contributions to Bengali cinema will remain immortal. On the sets, he was a prankster full of life: Rituparna Sengupta
This is just unbelievable. Mithuda and I worked together in many films. At one point of time, we used to be a hit jodi. In fact, I worked with him in Rituparno Ghosh’s Dahan — the film that gave me the National Award. On the sets, he was a prankster full of life. He used to crack jokes and fool people – all innocent pranks. He was a foodie and a great cook too. All of us in the Bengali film industry will remember his contributions to the field.
