Independence Day 2022: The forgotten heroes celebs want to see in biopics

It’s that time of the year when we are high on patriotic spirit paying tribute to those sacrificed their lives to make India free. Cinema has always been following life intensely. So many filmmakers have paid homage to these freedom fighters through their cinematic works. However, there are unsung heroes who are lost in the pages of history. This Independence Day, our celebs speak about those revolutionists whose biopics they would love to see on screen.

2/5

Rituparna Sengupta

The lives of Masterda Surya Sen and Sri Aurobindo – two iconic freedom fighters from Bengal – have always inspired me. A school teacher Surya Sen still lives in our hearts. His brave story of leading the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid in British India still haunts every Bengali. Aurobindo joined the movement for independence before becoming a spiritual reformer. I think people will love to know more about them.

3/5

Rukmini Maitra

If a biopic is to be made on my favourite freedom fighter I think it should be either on Sarojini Naidu or Annie Besant. I admire both of them a lot. Both these women were active members of Indian National Congress and let their lives in a way that inspired many. I would like Kamaleswar Mukherjee to direct the film, as his eye for detail and the way he does research are unbeatable. I think today’s generation would want to know more about these two inspiring women of India.

4/5

Sauraseni Maitra

I dream of playing another iron lady from Bengal Pritilata Waddedar who under the guidance of Surya Sen led fifteen revolutionaries in the 1932 armed attack on the Pahartali European Club. The revolutionaries torched the club and were later caught by the British police. To avoid arrest, Pritilata consumed cyanide and died.

5/5

Ishaa Saha

There were so many female freedom fighters from Bengal who gave their lives for the country. But if you ask me I would love to play Pritilata Waddedar. Be it small screen or film, the story of male freedom fighters have always received much love from the audience. But surprisingly there’s no such screen adaptations inspired by Indian female revolutionary figures.
