Jisshu is just his nickname

You may be surprised to know that the dashing Bengali actor’s real name is Biswaroop Sengupta. However, the actor is widely known as Jisshu, his nickname. He was born in Kolkata in 1977. Jisshu studied at the Julian day school, where he was passionate about cricket. He graduated with a degree in economics from Heramba Chandra College, following which he pursued a career in advertising

Jisshu was a state-level cricketer

Before starting his journey as an actor, Jisshu Sengupta was a talented cricketer. He even represented Bengal in some state-level sub-junior league matches. Being an avid sports person, Jisshu is currently the captain of a cricket team in the Celebrity Cricket League. He has even participated in many charity football matches over the years and even ran the Kolkata Marathon

Jisshu's journey from television soap to the big-screen

Jisshu made his acting debut with the popular Bengali TV soap, 'Mahaprabhu', where he essayed the lead character of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The role gave him a breakthrough and made him a household name across Bengal. Subsequently, in 1999 he was cast in a Bengali movie titled 'Priyojon', which failed to give his career the necessary boost.

Jisshu Sengupta and Nilanjanaa's love story

Jisshu is married to actress Nilanjanaa for 14 years and the couple has two daughters - Sara and Zara. It’s not an exaggeration if you call Jisshu and his wife, one of the cutest couples Bengali film industry has ever seen. They have always maintained their lovey-dovey image and never tried to hide their affection for each other.
The couple had to go through a lot to finally getting married in 2004. They have so many cute and adorable stories to share but one of them will leave you speechless. Reportedly, after marriage, the couple used to sleep on the floor as they didn’t own a wooden bed. However, it finally came when Nilanjanaa was pregnant with their first child.

Did you know Jisshu had a favourite role?

Srijit Mukherji’s 2015 film 'Rajkahini' portrayed Jisshu in a negative light with a character named Kabir. His brilliant acting in this film won Jisshu a round of applause. A little birdie from the Bengali industry once revealed that the 'Rajkahini' role is one of the actor’s favourites.
Going deep into the dark history of Partition, Mukherji's film revolved around a border between the two countries running through a brothel sheltering 11 women.

Jisshu's Bollywood debut in Shyam Benegal's film

Jisshu made his debut in Bollywood in Shyam Benegal’s 2005 film 'Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero'. The popular Bengali actor was cast as Sisir Bose, Netaji’s nephew. Since then, he has appeared in many Bollywood hits such as 'Barfi', 'Mardaani', 'Piku'. His next big Hindi film is the upcoming historical drama 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi', starring Kangana Ranaut. The dashing Bengal actor will be seen as Rani Laxmibai’s husband Maharaja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar
