Polls should be held in February or November, not in April or May: Ram Vilas Paswan

NEW DELHI: Union minister and LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday spoke against holding elections in April-May, citing the hot weather during these months, which he said was not appropriate for polls. He urged political parties to evolve a consensus for polls to be held in either February or November.

“Once a new government is formed, leaders of all parties should seriously consider and decide holding

and assembly polls either in February or November. It will facilitate campaigning. People will cast votes in comfort, boosting the turnout. It will strengthen democracy,” Paswan tweeted. Paswan said people were more aware about voting these days but April-May was not an appropriate time for general elections as it was extremely hot and resulted in lower turnout.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, which started on April 11, ended on Sunday. Campaigning was especially taxing in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and

West Bengal

as they had polls in every phase.
