Voters find their names missing from voters' list
DEHRADUN
: Avijit Das, 22, along with his father, had arrived at the polling station on Bengali Library Road early on Thursday morning only to find his name missing from the voters’ list. Apart from the polling station near his home, he visited three others in the area but had to return home without casting his vote.Das and his father weren’t alone. Hundreds of others had to return home without casting their votes since their names were missing from the list. According to Das, their names were missing from the voters’ list despite having voted in the last year’s municipal elections. “Both of us had voted last year but our names were removed from the list. How is that possible? We were not even notified that our names have been deleted,” he said.
Swati Chaturvedi
who had turned up at DL Road, was also shocked to find her name missing from the list. “I have been asking around why my name is not there but no one has an answer. This is despite the fact that I had voted last year. The officers now say I cannot vote because my name has been deleted. How can the commission delete my name without even informing me?” she said.Meanwhile, 25-year-old Sunita Negi, said that her name has been taken off twice from the list. “I had voted in the 2014 elections. However, my name was deleted when I came to vote in 2017. Then I got a new voter ID card and now my name has been taken off again. I did not receive any mail or even a SMS,” she said.
