MUSSOORIE
: Angry over lack of approach roads to their
village
and resultant health and economic issues, the residents of two
Tehri
villages have decided not to vote for any political party in the upcoming
Lok Sabha
elections. While the residents of Melgarh have decided to boycott the polls, the residents of Kharak have decided to opt for NOTA. They have also asked all elected representatives to stay away from their village.
Residents of Melgarh said that in case of a medical emergency, they have to carry the sick on a chair for more than 2 km over a steep hill. “Over the years several people have not been able to make it to the hospital located 12 km away at Nainbagh,” said Balbir Verma of Melgarh.
Similar are the woes of adjoining Kharak village, which is located 1.5 km from the road. “We grow a lot of vegetables here but due to the high cost of transportation, we incur losses,” said Jabar Singh Rawat of Kharak village.
