Residents of eight villages agree to vote

MUSSOORIE: Residents of eight villages of

Tehri Garhwal district

who had announced a boycott of polls over the lack of development in their areas, have now decided to cast their ballots in the upcoming

Lok Sabha elections

. The move came after the intervention of Mahaveer Rangar, former BJP MLA from Dhanaulti.

Speaking to media on Monday, Anand Singh Tomar, Sartali village Pradhan, said that the representatives of these eight villages had a meeting with Rangar who had urged them to not boycott the elections.

“The former BJP MLA convinced us to not boycott the polls and also assured us that post elections, sincere efforts would be made to address our demands. Subsequently, we had a big meeting wherein it was decided that we will not boycott the polls,” Tomar said.

Meanwhile, speaking to TOI, Rangar said that the representatives from these villages had met him and had apprised him that several roads connecting to their villages had not been constructed.

“I told them that boycotting the electoral process would not give them a solution and that they must exercise their democratic right to vote. Following the elections, efforts would be made to address their issues,” Rangar said.
