DEHRADUN
: The official data released by the Election Commission shows a decline in poll percentage at Pauri, Almora and Haridwar seats this year as compared to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. While the figure remained the same at Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar, the percentage saw a slight increase in Tehri constituency.
While Tehri saw polling of 58.3%, which was slightly better than 57.5% recorded in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency polled 68.69% votes in 2014 which was almost the same percentage polled in 2019. The remaining three constituencies saw a dip in polling percentage.
In 2014, Almora saw polling of 53.22% which went down to 51.82% this time. Similarly, Pauri, which polled 55.03% in 2014 dipped to 54.47% in 2019. Haridwar had 71.63% voting in 2014, which was reduced to 68.92% in 2019.
Incidentally, even in the bastions of prominent state politicians, the polling percentage did not see a spike. For instance, there was a decline in polling percentage in the Doiwala assembly seat held by CM
Trivendra Singh Rawat. Doiwala which is a part of Haridwar Lok Sabha seat saw a dip from 66.57% in 2014 to 66.23% in 2019. Haridwar city, which is the home constituency of urban development minister

also saw a decline from 64.44% in 2014 to 62.37% this time. Minister of state
Rekha Arya
’s constituency Someshwar, too, saw a decline from 54.53% to 51.80%.
Forest minister
Harak Singh Rawat’s Kotdwar seat saw polling percentage dip from 66.37% in 2014 to 61.46% in 2019. Leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh’s Haldwani assembly seat, too, witnessed a downward trend from 63.07% polling in 2014 to 62.19% in 2019.
A total of 8.63 lakh votes were polled at Tehri, 7.19 lakh at Pauri, 6.78 lakh at Almora, 12.48 lakh at Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar and 12.65 lakh at Haridwar, according to updated figures provided by EC.
