No water, no vote: Mussoorie residents

MUSSOORIE: After numerous complaints regarding inadequate water supply in many parts of town going unheard, the residents of several localities in

Mussoorie

have decided to boycott the upcoming

Lok Sabha

polls if authorities fail to address their issue before elections.

A large number of women gathered in the Raj Mandi area of Mussoorie on Tuesday and protested against Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi, the state government and the city’s water board.

The protesting women alleged that the water supply has been unsteady for several days now but the officials of the Jal Sansthan have not yet taken any step to rectify the situation. They also accused some officials of the Jal Sansthan of demanding bribes to supply water. The protesters further alleged that the authorities ensure frequent water supply to the nearby hotels but ignore residential areas.

“We raised the issue with Jal Sansthan officials and later with MLA Ganesh Joshi but no step has been taken to address the problem. We are struggling to meet our daily water requirements yet those responsible are doing nothing," said Guddi Devi, one of the protesters.

S K Saini, executive engineer of Jal Sansthan, told TOI that he would send officials to the locality on Wednesday to resolve the problem. Regarding corruption charges against the sansthan officials, Saini said that if he receives any complaint, then he would take necessary action.
