DEHRADUN: Days before polls, city police seized 100 cartons of illicit country-made liquor from a bootlegger during a checking drive conducted on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Amit Rawat, a resident of Defence Colony, was caught at a check point in Raipur area.
“In the wake of the upcoming polls, we have intensified our checking drive. On suspicion, police team stopped a pick-up vehicle on Sunday early morning.
Upon checking, we recovered 100 cartons of illicit liquor containing 4800 pouches,” said Chandrabhan Singh, in-charge of Raipur police station.
The bootlegger was presented before the court on Sunday and booked under sections 60 and 72 (2) of Excise Act,
In another seizure, a static surveillance team seized Rs 2 lakh unaccounted cash from two persons at Naya Gaon police check post in Patel Nagar police station area on Sunday.
“During the checking, we found Rs 2 lakh cash kept in a black colour wallet in an SUV. When asked, the two persons on board the SUV failed to provide satisfactory documents with regard to the cash,” said Sunil Kumar Yadav, head of the static surveillance team.
