Vociferous opposition to any electoral alliance with Hanuman Beniwal's local party RLP rocked the meeting of Rajasthan Congress to discuss probable candidates for 2024 polls on Tuesday. Sources said Barmer MLA and senior leader Harish Chaudhary made a special representation to AICC's screening panel, arguing that Beniwal tried to defeat him in the recent assembly polls and wants to decimate Jat community leadership of the party, and Congress should steer clear of him.
State president Govind Dotasara too is said to have opposed it, along with other senior netas.
Sources said a tie-up with Beniwal is under consideration of AICC panel. Many view it as being pushed by ex-CM Ashok Gehlot. Party fuctionaries warned that Beniwal's claims fizzled out in assembly polls, where he could win only one assembly seat, and a tie-up will only revive his party.
Meanwhile, Gehlot's son Vaibhav may be party candidate from Jalore. Congress may leave a seat for CPM in state, which may be Sikar constituency. TNN
