Ghanshyam Tiwari's party merges with Congress
JAIPUR:
The former BJP minister has joined the Congress in March 29 this year at a rally attend by Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Jaipur.
Tiwari said, he is joining the Congress party to save the democratic institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, he could understand the feeling of Tiwari. He said both began their political journey almost same year but on a different path. While I was a staunch Congressman for 40 years, Tiwari chose the saffron path."
He said, a person who spent so many years in BJP to leave the party is a painful decision but he said it was the need of the hour as all democratic institutions in the country is under severe strain under PM Modi.
PCC president Sachin Pilot, AICC general secretary in-charge Avinash Pande were among those present on the occasion.
In 2017, Tiwari had opened a front against BJP leader and then chief minister Vasundhara Raje and resigned from the party in June 2018.
Tiwari had floated Bharat Vahini Party ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly elections in 2018. He contested the election from Sanganer seat from where he not only lost but also got his security forfeited.
