JAIPUR: Reacting to the allegations of EVM malfunction by the opposition parties, Union minister and BJP election in-charge
Prakash Javadekar called the allegations baseless. In a presser at the BJP headquarter, Jaipur on Wednesday, the minister said that the opposition is playing the politics of convenience by raising doubts on EVMs only when they fear defeat.
“The opposition, especially the Congress didn’t see any problem in the EVMs when they won assembely elections in
Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgrah in December 2018.
They could sense that EVMs malfunctioned only when they see that mandate is going aganist them," said Javadekar.
The opposition parties have raised doubts over the malfunction of EVMs after all three polling phases. The NCP chief Sharad Pawar expressed fear that EVMs can easily be compromised followed by the similiar allegations levelled by the Congress, AAP, TMC, TRS and DMK leaders. “The opposition has conceded defeat is reason that they are leaving no stone unturned to raise the issue of EVM malfunction in the country,” said the minister.
Responding to a question on low voting turnout in some states as compared to 2014 in the first three phases, Javadekar explained that the low turnout is due to poor show by the opposition parties.
