172 candidates file nominations for 1st phase
JAIPUR: As the filing of nominations for the first phase of
Banswara has seen lowest number of candidates filing their nominations (5).
Among the prominent leaders, chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot filed his nomination from Jodhpur and Congress candidate from Ajmer Riju Jhunjhunwala also filed his nomination. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has filed nominations in all the 13 constituencies for the first phase of election. Communist Party of India (CPI) candidates have filed nominations from Udaipur and Chittorgarh.
Meanwhile, A. Qayyum has filed his nomination as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Jhalawar-Baran, but he is yet to get the party's symbol from the high command. In the first phase, the polling will take place in 28,182 polling stations and 2.57 crore electors would cast their votes. The candidates can withdraw their nominations till April 12. The nomination filing for the second phase of elections in the state (for 12 constituencies) would begin on Wednesday (April 10) and it would continue till April 18.
The second phase of polling will be held on May 6. The polling will take place in 23,783 polling stations and 2.30 crore electors would cast their votes.
