Punjab: Sakhi polling booths for women in Fatehgarh Sahib

: To facilitate women voters, the administration has come up with an initiative, with

Sakhi polling booths

being set up in all the nine assembly segments falling in

Fatehgarh Sahib

Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab. The booths will have ladies staff for polling process and woman cops for security.


Deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer for Fatehgarh Sahib Parshant Kumar Goyal said besides this, 56 model polling booths would be set up with crèche facility being made available for children. Ramps, wheelchairs, attendants and transportation facility will be ensured for special voters.

In all the nine assembly constituencies, 1750 polling booths will be set up and 3500 EVMs, 1750 control units and 1750 VVPAT machines will be put up. Besides this,

EVMs and VVPAT machines

will be kept as reserve in case of emergency and approximately 12,000 employees will be deputed for polling.

The GPS system will be installed in the vehicles of all the sector officers and AROs so that a close watch is kept on the movement of their vehicles to ensure that EVMs and VVPAT machines are taken at a designated place.

Earlier, Shyamal Kishore Pathak, IAS, general observer - while addressing the returning officers, sector officers and other election-related staff - warned them to do their duty in an impartial manner; he told them to ensure that guidelines of the Election Commission of India were implemented.
