Sangli mayor booked for lotus design sari

KOLHAPUR: The election authorities have filed an FIR against Sangita Khot, mayor of Sangli-Miraj Kupwad, for wearing a sari with a lotus design during polling in Sangli on Tuesday.
After casting her vote along with family members, Khot shared her pictures on social media. She is associated with the BJP, whose poll symbol is lotus. TNN
According to the model code of conduct, no material with party symbol or images of leaders should be used in any form at polling booths because it can influence voters.

Congress leader Ayyaz Naikawadi raised the issue with the local election authorities, who, after consulting with election officials, lodged a police complaint for violation of the code of conduct.
District election returning officer Abhijeet Chaudhari said, "We have received the complaint and filed an FIR at Miraj police station."
The election authorities investigated the issue with booth-level officers before filing the FIR.
