Aurangabad: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday took a dig at Narendra Modi, saying he leads a lonely life and does not know what running a house entails, and warned him to “keep his nose out” of his family. “He targets me and my family quite often these days, but doesn’t know how a family runs. It will better if he keeps his nose out of my family,” said Pawar, referring to the personal attacks made by Modi against him during campaigning in Maharashtra.
Pawar also criticised Modi for rejecting the role of the Nehru-Gandhi family in the development of India and said the Prime Minister should protect the dignity of the chair he was holding by respecting those who had contributed towards nation-building.
“ If you choose to speak in a foul language against those who served this country, it will be just a matter of time before people stop valuing the post you are holding,” he said.
Addressing an election rally in Ashti in Beed district, Pawar showered praises on Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhis. “Nehru went behind bars for nine years while fighting against British rule whereas Indira Gandhi, during her tenure as PM, dealt with Pakistan with an iron hand and created east Pakistan. As PM, Rajiv Gandhi brought about a technological revolution in the country. Despite his absence, Sonia Gandhi chose to stay on in India and serve the people instead of returning to her home country. Now, Rahul Gandhi has been uniting the youth to take the country on the correct path.”
The NCP chief also hit out at Modi for not touching upon issues related to drought, farm-ers, assured price for agricultural produce and unemployment during his rallies in the state. “However, he wasted his energy talking about my family.”
Pawar said the PM was taking undue credit for the air strike in Pakistan after the Pulwama attack. Pawar recalled the cordial relations he enjoyed with BJP leader Gopinath Munde, who hailed from Beed. “We often engaged in verbal duels but bore no personal enmity and maintained cordial relations,” he said, adding that as a tribute to the late leader, his party did not field a candidate for the 2014 Beed LS byelections after Munde’s death. For 2019 LS polls, the NCP has fielded Bajrang Sonawane from Beed against Munde’s daughter Pritam, who is seeking re-election.
