Issue of Smriti Irani affidavit is unfortunate, says Supriya Sule

PUNE: Supriya Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party candidate from Baramati, said the issue regarding discrepancies in BJP candidate Smriti Irani’s affidavit was “unfortunate”.

Sule, a sitting MP, said as these affidavits are official documents, one must be very careful with them. “I check the affidavit 10 times before submitting it because it is a major responsibility,” she said at a press conference.

“I have had a good relationship with Irani for many years now. I did not expect this to happen. It is unfortunate,” said Sule. When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constant attacks on NCP chief Sharad Pawar, including during the

rally, where he asked Pawar to clear his stand on the Kashmir issue, Sule said: “This is a sensitive topic. The situation there is very bad. Why did the BJP not take up the issue of Article 370 in the past five years? It is necessary to talk to the people there and resolve the issue.”

“They are making personal accusations because they have no grounds to accuse us on the implementation of policies. Nobody has criticized the policies by us. Unfortunately, no political leader coming from outside is talking about the two major issues — drought and educated unemployment,” she added.

Taking potshots at the campaigns by the major BJP leaders in Baramati, Sule said, “Everybody loves to come to Baramati. The Baramati pattern is admired by all. I welcome everybody to Baramati by saying ‘Athiti Devo Bhava’. Everybody fights elections to win. There is nothing wrong in it.” She said she will soon start campaigning for Parth Pawar in Maval.
