At 63%, Vidarbha voter turnout same as 5 years ago

NAGPUR: The voting percentage in ten constituencies of

Vidarbha

is almost the same as that in 2014. Last time the average figure was 63.1% while this time it is 62.9%.


However, the 2019 figure may change when final polling percentages of Akola,

Amravati

and Buldhana seats, which went to polling on April 18, are known.

According to district administrations, Akola witnessed 60% polling, Amravati 62% and Buldhana 62.5%. The Naxal-hit

Gadchiroli district

where Maoists had called for a boycott of voting was the highest at 71.77%. Five incidents of violence including two blasts took place on polling day here.

Nagpur seat where no untoward incident took place has the lowest voting percentage — 54.74%. It was the lowest in 2014 too.

The voting in the three seats in phase two of general elections have gone up slightly. Last time the voting in Buldhana was 61.4% against an approximate 62.5% this time. In 2014 voting percentage of Amravati was 58.5% while this time it is over 60%. In Akola the figures are the same.
