NASHIK: Voters from

Nashik

can pat their backs for turning up in large numbers on Monday to record the second highest voting percentage since 1951. Final voter turnout for Nashik Lok Sabha constituency was 59.40%, marginally higher than 2014.

The highest polling percentage (65.79) was registered in 1967 when Congress candidate, Bhanudas Kavde, won the polls. During the remaining 15 general elections, the polling percentage for Nashik hovered between 45% and 55%.

Voting data from the election department shows the two rural assembly segments of Sinnar and Igatpuri registered highest voters turnout on Monday compared to the urban seats covering Nashik city. However, the polling percentage in Igatpuri dipped by a little over one percent as compared to 2014 polls. In contrast, the polling percentage in the three urban assembly segments increased this time compared to 2014 polling.

There was a significant rise in voting in the Nashik Central assembly segment comprising areas like Dwarka, College Road, Gangapur Road etc. Over 3.8% more voters turned up at polling booths this time than in 2014. In Deolai assembly segment, the voters’ turnout was over 60% this time, it was a drop of 3.03% compared to 2014 polling.
