Dausa is one of Rajasthan's 25 Lok Sabha constituencies, reserved for ST candidates. In 2019, it had 1,730,289 voters with 1,062,834 valid votes. Jaskaur Meena from BJP won with 548,733 votes, defeating Savita Meena of Congress by 78,444 votes.
In 2014, Dausa parliamentary constituency had a total 1524100 electors. Total number of valid votes was 930492. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Harish Chandra Meena won and became MP from this seat. He secured a total 315059 votes.
In the past two decades, the Meenas have emerged as dominant political players in the Dausa Lok Sabha constituency, surpassing the ‘Pilots’ or the Gujjars. This shift signifies the rise of Scheduled Tribes (ST) over Other Backward Castes (OBC) in the region.
The date of voting for the Dausa constituency of Rajasthan is April 19 (Phase 1). The date of counting and announcement of results is June 4.
The upcoming election in the constituency is poised to witness a showdown between two prominent Meena candidates.
Congress has nominated Murari Lal Meena, a fiveterm MLA and former state minister, while the BJP has chosen Kanhaiya Lal Meena, an exMLA and former state minister, leading to anticipation about which ‘heavyweight Meena’ will prevail.
The Dausa Lok Sabha constituency spans across eight assembly segments in three Eastern Rajasthan districts: Dausa, Lalsot, Bandikui, Sikrai, and Mahuwa in Dausa district; Chaksu and Bassi in Jaipur Rural district; and Thanagazi in Alwar district. Among these segments, there are five BJP MLAs and three Congress MLAs.
Based on the outcomes of the 2023 assembly polls, the BJP is positioned favourably to secure a third consecutive victory in this Lok Sabha seat, although Congress candidate Murari Lal Meena is optimistic about wresting the seat from the BJP. Reflecting on the upcoming election, Murari Lal Meena expressed determination, emphasizing the distinct nature of Lok Sabha elections compared to assembly polls.
