Navjot Singh Sidhu: PM Modi hollow like bamboos, Rahul Gandhi sweet as sugar cane

KOZHIKODE: Congress’s star campaigner Navjot Singh Sidhu took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a range of issues, including demonetisation, loss of jobs and mounting NPAs of banks due to alleged siphoning of funds by big corporates, during his campaign tour covering

Kozhikode

, Vadakara and parts of Wayanad parliament constituency on Thursday.

Sidhu said that Modi has been the PM for just 0.1% of the big corporates and that he proved during his tenure that 99.9% people of the country including farmers, labourers and the poor did not exist for him at all.

Modi believes that promises and eggs are meant to be broken. Modi’s promises are like bamboos. They look very tall but are hollow inside. But Rahul’s promises are like

sugarcane

, sweet from inside and sweet from outside. He said 50 lakh farmers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have benefited due to the fulfilment of the promise of loan waiver given by Rahul, which was implemented in just two hours,” he added.

Sidhu said that the last five years have been the worst in the history of the country.

“The PM has been only roaming in the air for two years. He is a parachuter, but Rahul Gandhi is a grassrooter. Modi has been saying of late he is the ‘chowkidar’ of the country, but have you seen a ‘chowkidar’ in front of a farmer’s or poor man’s house? He is guarding the interests of only one percent of the people, the Ambanis and Adanis,” Sidhu added.

Slamming the BJP, Sidhu said that the party turned black money in the country to ‘purple money’ during the demonetisation drive.

Modi came to power promising to provide two crore jobs a year but just the demonetisation decision alone took away 35 lakh jobs and 1.10 lakh crore jobs were lost in the country during the last one year.

Sidhu said that under Modi’s reign, the NPAs of public sector banks alone have risen from Rs 2 lakh crore in 2014 to Rs 10.25 lakh crore currently, with a majority of the funds being siphoned off by big, fat corporates with connivance of those in power.

Asked about the FIR lodged against him for the alleged controversial remarks he made exhorting Muslim voters in a

Lok Sabha

constituency in Bihar to vote en bloc to defeat Modi, Sidhu said he had not made any communal remarks.

“Have I said green virus, have I said Modiji ka army, have I been banned for two days? They are trying to deflect attention. All I have said is on record and around 20,000 people were there. All I have said is you have to fight against the divisive forces,” he said at a press conference held in Kozhikode.
