Muslim League has no secular credentials to show: Brinda Karat
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sharing the views of BJP on the credentials of
“When it comes to protection of secularism, Congress is a confused party. You talk secularism and mix religion with politics. You talk about fighting BJP and then run away to a state where main force fighting BJP is the LDF. To fight BJP, you take the support of a party not known for its secular credentials. And then you claim to be the main fighter of secularism. IUML is a party known for its alliance with fundamental forces. It is a party that mixes politics and religion as part of its very basic fundamental platform. I don’t think they have secular credentials to show,” Karat said.
Karat said CPM was against communalism of all hues and colours, though the one being spread by BJP and RSS were its prime target. Karat, however, said it would be immaterial to draw parallels between CPM’s views with that of BJP or any other party for that matter. Only CPM and other Left parties remain fully committed to the mission of protecting secularism, she said.
The CPM leader said Rahul Gandhi was just one among the many UDF candidates that LDF is fighting and the Left front would win all 20 seats.
Indian Union Muslim League
(IUML), CPM politburo memberBrinda Karat
said here on Monday that the League is a party ‘not known for its secular credentials’. It is, Karat said, a party which has ‘struck alliances with fundamental forces’ and ‘mixes politics with religion’. Addressing a meet-the-press programme organized by Kesari memorial journalists’ trust here, Karat said Congress lacked ‘credibility’ in its resolve to fight for secularism.“When it comes to protection of secularism, Congress is a confused party. You talk secularism and mix religion with politics. You talk about fighting BJP and then run away to a state where main force fighting BJP is the LDF.
