Lok Sabha elections: LDF's Jayarajan holds show of strength in Onchiyam

Jayarajan who came two hours late, waded through children who received him with flowers and picked up the mike. The candidate hit the target straightaway. “A small group called RMP that originated from this place is campaigning against me directly. The party has become the B-team of the UDF,” he said.

Onchiyam is important for the CPM as eight cadres were killed in police firing here in 1943. “The RMP that boasts that it is a

revolutionary

party has forgotten the martyrs and have joined hands with Congressmen who have the blood stains of the martyrs on their hands,” Jayarajan told the gathering. “The RMP is planning a meeting of the victims of political violence in the constituency and it has invited RSS-BJP members for the programme. It clearly shows that the RMP is canvassing RSS-BJP votes for the UDF,” he said.

The CPM ensured good public participation for the campaign in Onchiyam and nearby places, which are RMP’s strongholds of the RMP. Jayarajan was received at all points with fireworks and bands.

A few families who left the RMP to join the CPM were given receptions at the meetings at Nellacheri and Onchiyam areas. The CPM seems to drive home the point that the RMP has become much weaker over the years and many in the party are dejected over the leadership’s decision to support the UDF.

“The UDF is singling out me for individual attack. They do not have anything to say about the development of the constituency or what the sitting MP have done for Vadakara,” Jayarajan said at the meeting at Vellikulangara.

Jayarajan urged CPM workers to visit the houses of RMP activists. “We do not have any secret agendas and our policies are transparent. Go to every house and expose the treachery of RMP leadership. No RMP workers with some amount of dignity will continue in the party,” he said.
