Happy to contest from Varanasi if Rahul asks, says Priyanka Gandhi

KALPETTA

(KERALA): Amid speculations about her contesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, AICC general secretary (UP East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that she would be happy to do so if Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked her.

Responding to questions on whether she would contest from Varanasi, Priyanka said: "You will find out. If the Congress president tells me to contest, I will be happy to contest." She made this comment after visiting the family members of Pulwama terror attack victim Vasantha Kumar VV at his home at Thrikkaipetta in Kerala's Wayanad.

Priyanka was on a two-day visit to Wayanad to campaign for brother Rahul, who is contesting from the constituency.

Stating that the ongoing elections were no ordinary poll, Priyanka urged people to make UDF victorious as vote in this election was to save the country and its ideals.

"We are fighting for much bigger things this election than just to gain power. The vote in this election is to save the country that we all love, a country in which all of us are free to express ourselves, our religion, our ways of being, our ways of eating and our ways of living," Priyanka said.

She said the electoral battle was crucial this time as

democracy

in the country was being undermined and rules were being imposed by a narrow-minded ideology where only one kind of thinking prevailed.
