candidate and the sitting MP, and to prove its credentials.AP state convener C R Neelakandan, in a statement issued here on Monday, said Raghavan no more has any moral right to contest the election as the video clip aired by the TV channel pointed at ‘a serious threat to

democracy

’.


“A party like Indian National Congress (INC) should take appropriate action immediately before the elections, as it would take several months for completion of legal procedures if initiated,” he said.

Deciding not to contest this time in the state ‘to ensure that secular votes are not divided’, the AAP, however, had said last week that it would not support candidates involved in corruption cases, political violence and anti-woman activities.

“The questions being raised on the ownership of the TV channel, the hidden interests or the identity of people behind the sting operation are not relevant at this stage. If the voice in the video clip belongs to M K Raghavan, it should be seen as a big threat to democracy. Beyond the issue of corruption, the video clip reveals how money rules the roost in elections even in a state like Kerala,” the AAP leader said.
